1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup prepared yellow mustard
1 Tbsp onion powder
1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp chili powder
Salt to taste
Red chili flakes, to taste
Directions
- Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan and cook on medium-low heat, whisking to combine thoroughly
- Once the salt and sugar are completely dissolved, if you like a thinner sauce you can skip to step 4
- Increase heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil, whisking often. Cook for another 5-10 minutes, or until sauce has reached desired consistency
- Remove from heat and let cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks
This is hands down my favorite bbq sauce. Don’t come after me. I like thinner, tangier sauces, and this one fits the bill nicely. If you like a bit more heat, don’t be stingy with the red chili flakes. I think ketchup is kinda salty already so I don’t add much salt to this sauce.
This pairs well with my pulled pork recipe, or smoked chicken, or really any meat you’d like to slather with sauce!
Enjoy!
